CEREC Same-Day Crowns in Grants Pass, Oregon
Restore your tooth without multiple appointments
When a tooth is weakened by decay, a large filling, a fracture, or an older restoration, a crown may be recommended to help protect the remaining tooth structure and restore its function.
At Allen Creek Dental, Dr. Michelle Johnson uses CEREC digital technology to design and create many crowns right here in our Grants Pass office—often allowing a crown to be completed in a single visit.
For many patients, that means fewer appointments, no temporary crown, and less time spent going back and forth to the dental office.
But same-day dentistry isn’t appropriate for every tooth or every situation. Dr. Johnson first evaluates the tooth, your bite, the remaining tooth structure, and your overall dental needs to determine whether a CEREC same-day crown is the right option for you.
What Is a CEREC Same-Day Crown?
CEREC is an advanced digital dental technology that allows us to digitally scan, design, and fabricate certain dental restorations in our office.
Rather than taking a traditional impression and sending it to an outside dental laboratory, we can use our digital technology to create a highly detailed digital model of your tooth. The crown can then be digitally designed and fabricated in our office.
The result is a convenient approach to restoring a tooth that can often be completed in one appointment.
Why Choose Allen Creek Dental for a Same-Day Crown?
Technology is only part of the equation.
Dr. Johnson has been practicing dentistry in Oregon since 1999 and has built Allen Creek Dental around comprehensive care, advanced technology, continuing education, and patient comfort.
Our office uses digital dentistry every day, including:
- CEREC technology for same-day crowns and restorations
- PrimeScan and digital scanning technology
- iTero digital scanning
- Digital X-rays
- CBCT 3D imaging
- Intraoral cameras
These technologies allow us to gather detailed information, plan treatment digitally, and show you what we are seeing during your examination.
For you, that means technology isn’t simply something we have in the office. It’s part of how we practice dentistry.
Is a Same-Day Crown Right for Your Tooth?
Not every damaged tooth should automatically receive a same-day crown.
The best restoration depends on the condition of the tooth and your individual circumstances. During your examination, Dr. Johnson evaluates factors such as:
- How much healthy tooth structure remains
- The location of the tooth
- The condition of existing fillings or restorations
- Your bite and the forces placed on the tooth
- The health of the surrounding gums and tissues
- Whether the tooth has had previous treatment
- The type and complexity of restoration required
In some situations, a CEREC crown may be an excellent choice. In others, a different type of restoration or treatment may provide a better long-term solution.
Our goal isn’t to put every patient into the same treatment. It’s to determine what makes sense for your particular tooth.
What Happens During a CEREC Crown Appointment?
If your tooth is a good candidate for a same-day crown, we begin by preparing the tooth and obtaining a detailed digital scan.
The digital scan replaces the traditional impression material that many patients remember from dentistry.
Your appointment generally includes:
1. Examination and treatment planning
Dr. Johnson evaluates your tooth, bite, surrounding tissues, and overall dental health and discusses your treatment options with you.
2. Tooth preparation
The damaged or weakened portion of the tooth is carefully treated and prepared to provide the appropriate foundation for the restoration.
3. Digital scanning
Our digital scanner captures detailed information about your prepared tooth and surrounding teeth.
4. Digital crown design
The crown is designed using digital technology, taking into consideration your bite, neighboring teeth, and the shape and appearance of your smile.
5. CEREC fabrication
Your crown is fabricated right here in our office using our CEREC technology.
6. Fit and bite evaluation
Before the crown is permanently placed, we carefully evaluate its fit, appearance, contacts with neighboring teeth, and bite.
7. Final placement
Once everything is appropriate, the crown is bonded into place.
The result is a restored tooth that can leave you ready to get back to your normal day.
The Convenience of Same-Day Dentistry
One of the biggest advantages of CEREC is convenience.
Traditional crown treatment often involves at least two appointments with a temporary crown between visits. Depending on the circumstances, you may also have to wait while a dental laboratory fabricates your permanent restoration.
With CEREC, many crowns can be designed and fabricated in our office during the same appointment.
That can mean:
- One primary appointment instead of multiple visits
- No waiting for an outside laboratory
- No temporary crown in many cases
- Less disruption to your work and family schedule
- A permanent restoration placed without a separate crown-delivery appointment
For patients with busy schedules, this can make a significant difference.
Digital Dentistry Helps Us See the Details
We believe advanced technology should make dentistry better and more comfortable—not simply more complicated.
Digital scanning allows us to capture detailed information about your teeth without traditional impression material. Intraoral cameras allow us to show you areas of your mouth that can be difficult to see on your own.
When additional information is needed, digital X-rays or CBCT imaging may be used to help evaluate the tooth and surrounding structures.
These tools don’t replace clinical judgment. They give Dr. Johnson more information to use when making treatment decisions.
What Happens After Your Crown Is Placed?
Once your CEREC crown is placed, it should function much like your natural tooth.
Good oral hygiene remains important. Brush twice a day, clean between your teeth, and continue with regular dental examinations so we can monitor your crown and the tooth supporting it.
The longevity of a dental crown varies from person to person. Factors such as the strength of the remaining tooth, bite forces, oral hygiene, grinding or clenching, diet, and everyday habits can all affect how a restoration performs over time.
We will also evaluate your crown during your regular dental visits and address any concerns that arise.
More Than Just a Same-Day Crown
At Allen Creek Dental, we don’t believe the goal of dentistry is simply to complete a procedure as quickly as possible.
The goal is to provide the right treatment for the right tooth while making the experience as comfortable and convenient as possible.
Sometimes that means a same-day CEREC crown.
Sometimes another restoration is a better choice.
Our job is to evaluate your situation, explain your options, and help you make an informed decision about your dental care.
