Why not straighten your teeth at home? It’s cheaper..or is it?
Aligners straighten teeth only on the surfaces that the plastic touches. Aligners alone can only provide a few movements, such as back and forth movements. Most teeth have rotations that require a clear attachment to be temporarily bonded to the tooth to move it into the proper position. Clear attachments also provide an anchor for the plastic to fully be in contact with the teeth. The aligners must be properly inserted every time. By using a chewing device to bite down on when putting aligners on and intermittently throughout the day, it will ensure the aligners are fitting correctly and enhance tooth movement. Unwanted movements can occur when using aligners and braces therefore, a dentist needs to monitor the movements throughout the treatment. If aligners are not done correctly, treatment can potentially lead to irreversible and expensive damage, such as a detrimental change in the bite and tooth loss.
